On the Enterprise in the 1987 - 1994 American TV series "Star Trek: The Next Generation", when Captain Picard ordered a cup of tea, he would always specify the kind that he wanted. He specifically asked the computer food replicator to give him Earl Grey tea. Because the computers on the ship were always depicted as annoyingly obtuse, all the ship crew members and others always had to be precise when using the food replicator. When Picard said: ‘Tea, Earl Grey', it made him appear formal, and it was better than him saying ‘hot tea’ or ‘tea, hot’. His actions in getting his tea totally reinforced his persona as a Starfleet (United Federation of Planets) Captain. Picard of course had to order his tea the way he did. How else!

Jean-Luc Picard was a celebrated Starfleet officer, archaeologist, and diplomat who served during the latter two thirds of the 24th century. The highlights of his career were centered around hie official duties and assignments. As commanding officer of the Federation starships: USS Stargazer, USS Enterprise-D, and the USS Enterprise-E, he not only witnessed the major turning points of recent galactic history, but he was able in many instances to play a very key role in the events that took place.

In the TV series for 178 episodes, Patrick Stewart as Captain Jean-Luc Picard boldly lead his crew to places where no one had gone before. With Jonathan Frakes, LeVar Burton, Marina Sirtis, Brent Spiner, and Michael Dorn, this was a popular syndicated series.
