On the 2000-2006 Warner Bros. Network and 2006-2007 CW Network comedy drama series "Gilmore Girls", Lorelai Gilmore found work at a hotel/inn owned by Mia Bass until she sold it in 2003. The name of this amiable establishment providing accommodations, meals, and other services for travelers and tourists was The Independence Inn.

The Independence Inn was the first work experience that Lorelai obtained when she arrived in the town of Stars Hollow as a teenage mother. She started as a maid, and worked her way up to executive manager. In addition to Lorelai, the staff included the chef, Sookie, and Michel Gerard, who ran the desk. It was owned by Mia until the inn was severely damaged by a terrible fire. Mia finally decided to sell the inn.
