In the TV war drama "Combat!", it was a series on television that followed a frontline American infantry squad as they battled their way across Europe during WWII. With mud splattered realism, this show offered character studies of men who worked at keeping their own humanity in the midst of fighting a worldwide war. Some of the individual soldiers who appeared in the series were Pvt./PFC William G. "Wildman" Kirby, PFC "Littlejohn", PFC Paul "Caje" Lemay, and Sgt. "Chip" Saunders.

The series was one that ran from 1962 to 1967. It centered on events involving the second platoon of fictional company "K" of the U.S. Army infantry. Action began with platoon experiences at the D-Day landing on the beaches of Normandy, France. It continued by following the experiences of the unit fighting their way to Berlin and the end of the war in Europe.

This series was extremely popular and was nominated for 3 Emmy awards. The action changed each week, but the regular cast was always headed by Vic Morrow as Sgt. Chip Saunders, the platoon Sergeant. Rick Jason as Lt. Gil Hanley was the platoon leader. Throughout the whole series, it was made up with actual battle sequences taken during combat situations in World War II.
