The city of Nassau is located on the island of New Providence about 150 miles southeast of Miami and is the largest city in the archipelago but New Providence is not the largest island. About 70% of The Bahamas' population resides in or near Nassau. Most tourists arrive either by cruise ship downtown at Prince George Wharf or via airplane at Lynden Pindling Airport on the west end of New Providence Island. The nearest island to New Providence is Paradise Island which is accessible by bridge or by a ferry from downtown. Paradise Island is known for its famous Atlantis resort.
