The 'Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini', Op. 43 is a concertante work of music written by Sergei Rachmaninoff. This specific musical score was written for a solo piano and symphony orchestra. In its structure, the music is a set of 24 variations, and it takes about 22–24 minutes to perform.

This particular score was written in 1934. At that time Rachmaninoff could look back on 30 years of fame. He was then known as a virtuoso pianist and celebrated worldwide performer. He not only performed his own works, but he also did the solo piano music of Beethoven and Chopin.

Shortly before his death in Beverly Hills, California, Rachmaninoff summed up his life.

He said: “In my own compositions, I have made no conscious effort to be original, or Romantic, or Nationalistic, or anything else. I write down on paper the music I hear within me. I am a Russian composer, and the land of my birth has influenced my temperament and outlook. My music is the product of my temperament, and so it is Russian music.... I have been influenced by Tchaikovsky and Rimsky-Korsakov; but I have never, to the best of my knowledge, imitated anyone."
