The Great Marianas Turkey Shoot took place during which battle?

The Battle of The Philippine Sea took place in June 1944 when the Japanese attempted to stop the American invasion of the Marianas. The Japanese fleet included 5 fleet carriers and 4 light carriers against 7 American Fleet carriers and 8 light carriers. The American carriers carried over 900 planes as opposed to 450 carrier and 300 land based aircraft for the Japanese. Despite having some advantages, such as a superior range for their aircraft, the Japanese were decisively defeated due to superior American training. The slaughter of Japanese pilots was so great: it was described as a "turkey shoot."

Figured it out as, the Philippine Sea was the closest to the Marianas Islands. I was stationed on Guam for two years.

Leda Beck, Men lost their lives fighting this "battle" or war. A "Turkey Shoot" is the nick name given to this Battle, no matter who was outnumbered, it's still a battle. Besides does it really matter what it is called!?!

"Superior" American training may have been part of it, but by 1944, American equipment - both in ships & in aircraft - had greatly surpassed Japanese equipment, both in quantity & in quality. The F6F fighter was far superior to the Japanese Zero in aerial combat, and the "Turkey Shoot" proved that.
