The Dallas Chaparrals were a team of the American Basketball Association, a professional basketball league that was merged into the National Basketball Association in 1976. The Chaparrals moved to San Antonio from Dallas in 1973 and became the Spurs when they came to the Alamo City. After a start in San Antonio's Hemisfair Arena and several years playing in the Alamodome, the team moved to its current venue--the AT&T Center--in 2002.

The Spurs have won 5 NBA championships, in 1999, 2003, 2005, 2007 and 2014.

The team, like other NBA franchises, has fielded a number of current and past international players, two of whom, Manu Ginobli (Argentina) and Tony Parker (France) are NBA all stars. The current team also includes Pau Gasol (Spain) and Patty Mills (Australia).
