Each year in the U.S. the nation’s largest bug-centric festival celebrating all things buggy (Insecta) happens each September at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences. It features events and places like the Roachingham 500 and Café Insecta.

Many local chefs will cook up some tasty treats featuring–you guessed it– edible bugs (insects). Each chef likes to think that he/she can make tasty and delectable dishes featuring creepy crawlers as a major ingredient at Café Insecta. Also, mixed with educational programming, music and entertainment, and a fun opportunity for people to interact with entomologists and other scientists, people enjoy the Beekeeping Workshop, the unusual bug contest to the stump the experts table, and joining the moths, fireflies and katydids for an exhilarating evening of nocturnal activities at the Evening Insectival.

Many of the participants freely say that several of the events are family favorites. This is especially true since one of the best parts of the festival, it’s all free!
