The North End is a neighborhood that is found in Boston, Massachusetts, U.S. It is one with the distinction of being the city's oldest New England residential community (neighborhood). It is known that the people in this area have continuously inhabited it since it was settled in the 1630s.

Unofficially (now known) as Boston’s “Little Italy,” the North End is one of the city’s smallest neighborhoods. It is a one-square-mile area jutting out into Boston Harbor. Nevertheless it has played and continues to play a key role in the city’s cultural, historical, and political affairs. It is within walking distance of the City's Government Center and as Boston’s oldest residential area, it relies heavily upon its past history as a European settlement which stretches back to the early 17th-century Puritans.

Over the past 400 years, the area has been home to one of the country's early African American communities. It has served to house waves of Irish, eastern European Jewish, and more recently, Italian immigrants. By 1930, almost all the inhabitants were Italian. With changing demographics, the number lost about two thirds. But it still was able to gain the reputation of "Little Italy". Today it is a popular destination for Bostonians and visitors from all over the world. They come for popular neighborhood festivals, to see historical features that honor revered saints and others, for political events that attract large crowds, to participate in local sporting events, etc...
