The Oregon Trail began in St. Louis, Missouri, and ended in either the British outpost of Fort Vancouver or in Oregon City, Oregon. The trail started in Missouri and then passed through or touched six (6) other U.S. states.

The Oregon Trail was a path used by 19th century settlers who made their way into the western areas of the United States. The trail passed through the state of Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, Wyoming and Idaho, and touched parts of Washington and Iowa.

The 2,000 mile trail ended in Oregon, and it took settlers four to six months to travel, with about 10 percent of settlers dying en route. The trail stretched through an uneven terrain of deserts, mountains and endless prairies.

During the migration season, there would be a massive traffic jam on the Oregon Trail as the settlers left for the west. Many accidents occurred along the way, including being run over by wagons, accidental gunshots, and cholera outbreaks.
