The character of Daniel Briggs performed skilled work for a public agency that appeared in the 1960s U.S. TV series "Mission: Impossible". This television series was created and first produced by Bruce Geller. It is a show that chronicles the missions of a team of secret government agents known as the Impossible Missions Force (IMF). In its 1st season, the team is led by Dan Briggs (played by Steven Hill). IMF is subsequently led by Jim Phelps (Peter Graves); he takes control of the team after Briggs.

A trademark for this series has Jim Phelps just like Briggs receiving his mission instructions on a tape that then self destructs, accompanied by the iconic theme music composed by Lalo Schifrin. Once the mission is known, the team will meet and focus on targets outside the reach of conventional law enforcement. Briggs and then Phelps with special effects whiz Barney (Greg Morris), muscle man Willy (Peter Lupus), escape artist Rollin (Martin Landau), and the gorgeous Cinnamon (Barbara Bain) or stunning Casey (Lynda Day George) will go to work to smash organized crime rings or bad government operations (figures).

The series aired on the CBS network from September 1966 to March 1973. It returned to television, as a revival, for two seasons on ABC (1988 to 1990). Later, the success on TV inspired a popular number of theatrical motion pictures starring Tom Cruise and Ving Rhames. In the first several films, the role of Phelps was played by Academy Award winner Jon Voight.
