This is Kate Pierson, one of the lead singers and founding members of the B-52s!

The multi-talented artist plays guitar, bass and various keyboard instruments, but is normally recognized for standing front and center during many of the B-52s hits and music videos including "Roam", "Channel Z", "Rock Lobster" and "Planet Claire".

She was born on April 28, 1948 in Weehawken, N.J.

The B-52's were formed in 1976 when Pierson, vocalist Cindy Wilson, Wilson's older brother and guitarist Ricky, original drummer and percussionist Keith Strickland and cowbell player, poet and lead vocalist Fred Schneider held an impromptu jam session after sharing a tropical Flaming volcano drink at a Chinese restaurant in Athens, Georgia. Other ideas they had to name their band were the "Tina-Trons" and "Fellini's Children."

The band's name comes from a particular beehive hairdo resembling the nose cone of the aircraft of the same name.

Pierson has not limited her work to just the B-52s. She has collaborated with many artists and groups on their projects, including the highly successful cut "Shiny Happy People" with Atlanta-based supergroup R.E.M.

She also appears on projects with Iggy Pop, The Ramones and her voice is on the cut "The World is New to Me" from the Rugrats Movie.
