A true "star" of the 1991 Oscar-winning classic movie, "Thelma & Louise", is the 1966 Ford Thunderbird. It was one star among several others, either just discovered or well known. Besides, being nominated for six Academy Awards, this movie was Brad Pitts' first major motion picture. It specifically launched his career and started his star to rise.

Susan Sarandon and Geena Davis, who played the main roles of Louise and Thelma respectively, drove the Ford Thunderbird (a piece of American car history) during the entire movie. At the very end they drive it off into the Grand Canyon.

Sarandon told Ridley Scott the director of the film that she didn't want to change the ending. Scott responded that while Louise would definitely die, she might shove Thelma out of the Thunderbird at the last second. In the actual movie, Louise steps on the accelerator. They ride the car over the cliff to their presumed deaths.
