This mighty rock is found in the geographical heart of Australia. It was formerly known as Ayer's Rock. What is its current aboriginal name?
This mammoth rock is commonly believed to be the biggest monolith in the world, however, that distinction goes to another Australian outcrop - Mount Augustus in Western Australia. To reach the top of Uluru, you would need to climb 1.6 kms and its perimeter is some 10 kms. As this is a sacred site to the local indigenous people, climbing the rock is now regarded by most Australians as a mark of disrespect.
