In 1981, Warren Beatty was nominated for four Oscars. He is the first and only person to have been twice nominated for acting in, directing, writing and producing the same film. The first time he received the honor was with Heaven Can Wait (1978); the second time this honor came with the film, Reds (1981).

Beatty has been nominated for fourteen Academy Awards – four for Best Actor, four for Best Picture, two for Best Director, three for Original Screenplay, and one for Adapted Screenplay – winning Best Director for Reds (1981). In 1999, Beatty was awarded the Academy's highest honor, the Irving G. Thalberg Award. This Award is given periodically by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences at the Governors Awards ceremonies to "Creative producers, whose bodies of work reflect a consistently high quality of motion picture production".

Warren Beatty, born Henry Warren Beaty in 1937 in Richmond, Virginia, has now worked in over thirty films since his memorable career began in the late 1950s.
