What animal is pictured here?
The correct answer is the red wolf. It is a carnivorous mammal of canid family, Canis Rufus species, nearly driven to extinction. Red wolves inhabit a very large area from Tian Shan and Altai mountains to the south of Indochina and Malaysian Archipelago.

Unbelievable griping by those who are wrong about what this animal is. To those who argue this animal doesn't look like a fox, I urge you to explore the Internet for the many varied species of foxes.

This picrture is not a red wolf which is natvive to Southeastern United states and is a genetic admixture between the grey wolf and the Coyote, it is regarded as a unique species and worthy of conservation. The Red Wolf and I are old friends as I have adopted the pack at the Chaffee Zoo in Fresno Ca.

None of the pictures I saw on the internet had a solid "red" face. They all had white around the mouth. Don't think think this picture is representative of the animal.

Figured it was either a jackel or wild dog. Never heard of a red wolf. A red fox - yes - but not a red wolf. But always, I enjoy quiz club because I learn.

The pictured animal is a dhole. Sometimes called Asiatic wil dog or red dog. Could perhaps be known locally as a red wolf? It’s not uncommon for animals in different parts of the world to share the same common names, hence the need for scientific names for clarification of which species is being referred to.

I got it wrong. I guess I need more training on wolves and dogs.

It is my humble opinion, that the animal shown in this photo is not the animal known as the Red Wolf. The Red Wolf is a smaller cousin of the Gray Wolf, that historically lived all over North America, but is practically extinct as of this time. The only surviving members of this species were part of an earlier captive breeding program. They only number 40 individuals as of 2018. If you take a look at a photo of a Red Wolf online, it looks nothing like the animal in this photo. It's fur is mostly grey, with a slight red or brownish tint. I cry foul on this answer, and do not think the photo is of any of the four animals mentioned in the question. Here is a link to a Red Wolf photo: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_wolf#/media/File:Red_wolf_(4531335218).jpg

Research dated 2004: The red wolf generally appears long-legged and rangy
with proportionately large ears. The species is intermediate
in size between the coyote and grey wolf. The red wolf’s
almond-shaped eyes, broad muzzle, and wide nose pad
contribute to its wolf-like appearance. The muzzle tends
to be very light with an area of white around the lips
extending up the sides of the muzzle. Coloration is typically
brownish or cinnamon with grey and black shading on the
back and tail.
