Archie Moore was born Archibald Lee Wright on December 13, 1916; he died on December 9, 1998 at the age of 81. He was an American professional boxer, and he was the longest reigning World Light Heavyweight Champion of all time (December 1952 – May 1962). He also had one of the longest professional careers in the history of the sport. He fought for an incredible 27 years.

Nicknamed "The Mongoose", and then "The Old Mongoose" in the latter half of his career, Moore holds the record for the most career knockouts with an estimate of between 129 and 144 knockouts the most in boxing history. It has been said that Moore was a highly strategical and defensive boxer, who had a great chin and good bludgeoning power.

All totaled, Moore fought nine world champions and seven Hall-of-Famers. He had multi-fight series with some of the game's top fighters. He won four of five fights from Jimmy Bivins and Harold Johnson, he won all three fights against Maxim and lost all three of his fights against Ezzard Charles. He is the only man to have fought both Rocky Marciano and Muhammad Ali.

During his retirement, Moore was a boxing trainer. He was able to train boxers such as Muhammad Ali, George Foreman and James Tillis. To his credit, he has been ranked number 4 on The Ring's list of "100 greatest punchers of all time".
