What continents does the Suez Canal separate?

The Suez Canal Separates Africa from Asia. It is also known by the nickname “The Highway to India“ and is an artificial sea-level waterway in Egypt, connecting the Mediterranean Sea and the Red Sea. Opened in November 1869 after 10 years of construction work, it allows water transportation between Europe and Asia without navigation around Africa.

Shelley Durocher, I believe that the point of a canal, as this one, is to join two bodies of water previously separated by LAND. Think Panama Canal as well as Suez. They also, in this case, act as a border separating two countries as well as two continents but the border aspect was not the primary purpose.

Shelley Durocher, No, it does separate them. Before the Canal was built, (1859-1869) the two continents were joined. The canal separated them.

Richard D. Boyle, you are spot on. Suez was built to shorten shipping routes giving access to the east as Panama gave access to the Pacific from the Atlantic to save the long journey right around South America.

jonbroberts, you need to look at an atlas! Europe is on the northern side of the Mediterranean Sea. The Suez Canal is in Egypt which in turn is in Africa.
