Budapest, the capital of Hungary is divided by the Danube river, with Buda on the west bank and Pest on the east. The city was created 17 November 1873 when 3 communities were combined, Buda, Pest, & Obuda. The single names of Buda or Pest are still used to this day when explaining which side of the river you need to visit. The city center and Parliament building are located in the Pest side of the city. While the Buda castle resides next to the river on the Buda side of the city. Budapest is truly one of the crown jewels of European cities. Although Hungary is a member of the EU they have never converted to the Euro as their currency.
