A bobeche is a slightly cupped ring placed over the socket of a candleholder to catch the drippings of a candle. It's origin is French maybe from bobine, or bobbin. These can be glass, metal or cut crystal. Pronounced boh-besh.

Originally these were designed to catch the wax that dripped from candles on early chandeliers. These are now considered an accent piece in which the socket, bulb and candle cover rise from. Today, these frequently are pinned with multiple prisms. They are often made with cut glass or even crystal.
