What is a murmuration?
Starlings are medium sized birds, which have short tails, triangular wings, and long, pointed bills. Starlings are stocky and black. A flock of starlings is called a murmuration. Starlings usually gather in very large flocks, which look amazing and even scary.

Loved the episode on Andy Griffith when the Darlings came to Mayberry and Aunt Bea heard them playing their music from a distance. She asked Andy what that was and he said, "the Darlings," to which she replied, "Starlings? Oh, no, not this time of year!"

A murmuration generally occurs when the birds are about to settle for the night, just before they roost. I like to think they are having their last exercise for the day..!! That way they get a good nights sleep..!! They are fascinating to watch, having seen a very good video of a really big and long one, would love to see the real thing.!
