What is the capital of Scotland?

I learn so much from this site, it is all the negative things people post that make it sad. Good question can't believe it got 3 dislikes.

Edinburgh has produced a lot of very clever, creative and influential people. As well as Napier and Maxwell, notable Edinburghians include Alexander Graham Bell (inventor of the telephone), Adam Smith (economist and author of The Wealth of Nations), David Hume (philosopher, economist and historian), Peter Higgs (physicist, whom the Higgs Boson is named after), Tony Blair (ex British Prime Minister), Robert Louis Stevenson (author of Treasure Island etc), Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (Edinburgh has an awesome statue of his most famous character, Sherlock Holmes), J.M. Barrie (author of Peter Pan etc), Sir Walter Scott (author of Ivanhoe, Rob Roy etc), the actor Sean Connery and, er, The Bay City Rollers. And that’s just scraping the surface! Charles Darwin studied at Edinburgh University, the first ever clone Dolly the Sheep was cloned by Edinburgh University, and JK Rowling wrote all the Harry Potter books in Edinburgh, where she still resides. Not bad for a little city of 500,000 - and it used to be much smaller.

Laurie Bowman, because so often the information they give is incorrect....that is why the negatives. That frustrates me as well as when they have a quiz and don't give us the correct answers.

I've been up st arthurs seat (an alleged mountain, but i'm not sure it's high enough) as a kid in Edinburgh with my mother and brother. My mother is Scottish, she was brought up in Fife, to the north of the city.

Alexander Bell invented telephone however he didn’t do the profoundly deaf any favours.His wife was profoundly deaf but at a conference in Spain it was decided to ban sign language and insist the deaf community should be made to speak In America where sign was not banned communities grew bilingual Everyone signs before they speak from small babies America had a profoundly deaf university .when Ronald Reagan was the President of the USA he visited .The profoundly deaf audience were able to read every sign body language and were in fits of laughter Why you may ask the answer easy never try to lie to the profoundly deaf they are able to read your thoughts through sign n language Wonderful educational course with the Open University made me aware of the discrimination that profoundly deaf suffered until the nineties when someone recognised sign as a full communication language in its own rite This course was the the most rewarding course I had ever experienced thank you those profoundly deaf people who contributed to wring the course etc One more fact the first British Sign Language dictionary was created which was recognition of the importance of sign I would recommend everyone to sign up for this amazing Open University course and their knowledge will assist their overall academia

Joann May, If it helps, Glasgow is more working class than Edinburgh. Edinburgh is a bit more monied and upper class, to Glasgow's working class. If you meet a Glaswegian, they have a much heavier Scottish burr to their accent. The Edinburgh accent is much milder, and a bit easier to understand than the Glaswegian accent. If you have ever watched the older Late Night with Craig Ferguson, Craig is from Glasgow, although his Scottish burr is a bit less pronounced since he became an American citizen. Comedian and actor Billy Connolly is from Glasgow and he has lost none of his thick Scottish burr.
