This is a wedding chapel, known as the Ribbon Chapel. It was designed by a Tokyo-based architect Hiroshi Nakamura and completed in 2013.

The 15.5-metre-tall structure (50'8" ft) is set in the garden of the hotel Bella Vista Sakaigahama in Onomichi, Hiroshima, overlooking the Inland Sea of Japan.

The chapel is configured as a double spiral formed by two stairways. Starting from different locations, the stairways seamlessly spiral upwards to turn into one singular structure. The intertwining pathways form the chapel's roof, eaves, and walls enclosing the central nave that contain seating for up to 80 guests.

The Ribbon Chapel represents the journey of a couple, crossing paths and supporting each other as they ascend to become one at the summit. A single stairway built in this fashion would be unstable, so as a couple support each other throughout their lives, the two staircases support each other and the building.

The bride walks down the aisle with her father. After the ceremony inside the chapel, the wife and the husband ascend two separate staircases and meet at the top. There they ask for Heaven's permission to join as one and declare their marriage. The two who lived separate lives, then walk back down the stairway together.
