Carrie is an American epistolary novel and author Stephen King's first published novel. It was released on April 5, 1974 with an approximate first print run of 30,000 copies.

Action takes place in the then future year of 1979. It revolves around the eponymous Carrietta N. "Carrie" White, a misfit and bullied high school girl. She uses newly discovered telekinetic powers to exact revenge on those who torment her. Ultimately, she is able to cause one of the worst local disasters in U.S. history.

Later, Stephen King could comment that he found the work to be "raw" and "with a surprising power to hurt and horrify."

Read all of King‘’a early novels and enjoyed them all. He doesn’t write literature but he sure writes page turners. His formula is to get the reader involved with the major characters very early in the book and build on that involvement. Most novelists attempt to do this but none are as consistently successful at it as is King. He is actually a much better writer than he is usually given credit for. For that matter, so is John Grisham who is the master of his own formula. Both write page turners easily converted to the screen. Neither produces trash. Both are essentially story tellers and damn good ones.
