The world's smallest fish is Paedocypris progenetica, and was only recently discovered in the last decade. Scientists discovered it living in the forest swamps on the Indonesian island of Sumatra. Mature females measure just 7.9 millimeters - less than one third of an inch!

This fish, a member of the carp family, has a translucent body and a head unprotected by a skeleton.

This tiny fish is not only the world's smallest fish, but it is also the smallest vertebrate! It has a see-through body and at first glance looks like a larvae. It lives in water that is 100x more acidic than rainwater with a ph of 3.

It has oddly- made fins that are capable of grasping.

The previous record of smallest fish was the goby discovered in United Kingdom.
