What is the world's record depth for cave diving?

Gennady Viktorovich Samokhin (born July 14, 1971 in Simferopol) is a Crimean speleologist. He was educated and works in the Tavrida National V.I. Vernadsky University.

Gennady Samokhin holds the cave diving depth world record when setting successive world records of 2,191 m in 2007 and 2,197 m in 2012. Both records were achieved at Krubera Cave in Georgia which remains the only known cave on Earth deeper than 2,000 metres.

Cave diving is underwater diving in water-filled caves. It may be done as an extreme sport, a way of exploring flooded caves for scientific investigation, or for the search for and recovery of divers lost while diving for one of these reasons. The equipment used varies depending on the circumstances, and ranges from breath hold to surface supplied, but almost all cave diving is done using scuba equipment, often in specialised configurations. Recreational cave diving is generally considered to be a type of technical diving due to the lack of a free surface during large parts of the dive, and often involves decompression.

We're talking about depth here, not distance, I think. I read somewhere that the world record for distAnce is 26,930 feet.

Tim Miller, Tim Miller, Nothing wrong with the question or the two depths reaching in setting the two records. Maybe you did not realise that the explanation gives two depth due to the two records set on different dates.

steveobs, Proof read your link and understand what it is saying before you make a rash comment. They only dived to a depth of some 300 feet (91 meters). They then swam through 7 miles (11.25 kilometers) of underground freshwater cave. They did not dive to the depth of 11.25km.
