What lady is known for her work among the poor of India?

Mother Teresa was born in 1910 in Skopje, the capital of the Republic of Macedonia. Little is known about her early life, but at a young age, she felt a calling to be a nun and serve through helping the poor. At the age of 18, she was given permission to join a group of nuns in Ireland. After a few months of training, with the Sisters of Loreto, she was then given permission to travel to India. She took her formal religious vows in 1931 and chose to be named after St Therese of Lisieux – the patron saint of missionaries.

On her arrival in India, she began by working as a teacher; however, the widespread poverty of Calcutta made a deep impression on her, and this led to her starting a new order called “The Missionaries of Charity”. The primary objective of this mission was to look after people, who nobody else was prepared to look after. Mother Teresa felt that serving others was a fundamental principle of the teachings of Jesus Christ.

williamrlaughlin, I am an Indian,no one turned a stone towards poor. The rich hindus do not want poor hindus to get water,good, education and other social benefits because these poor are rejected,called un touchable,neglected ,lynched to death if protested,. Even, the President of india was denied entry into a temple because he belonged to untouchable caste. Mother Teresa was s bold lady to help poor in a racist country .

In 2010 I visited her small bedroom at her convent. A cot, a chair, a sink. As I observed and contemplated her life, a young man stood in the doorway and wept silently. Such was her impact on him and the world.

Mother Teresa believed that poor people should suffer because that's there lot in life. She denied pain medication to those needing it because she believed God gave those people pain to teach them to endure. She believed that when people suffered, that's what God wanted. Yes she fed some people. But that's because if they died then they couldn't continue suffering in the name of God. She lived well. When in pain or sick, she had a private nurse. Just because she lived in the areas where the poor lived, doesn't mean she lived like a popper. All of this is easily researched for yourself. God does not want anyone to suffer. GOD does not cause suffering to test our faith. If you would like to know why we suffer and when suffering will end, then go jw.org. They will answer any questions you have.
