Sally Bowles is the name of the nightclub singer at the seedy Kit Kat Klub in the musical, 'Cabaret' (1966). She is a vivacious, talented cabaret performer, and an utterly lost soul. She and Clifford (Cliff) Bradshaw, a struggling American writer looking for inspiration for his next novel, begin a romantic relationship. It is one that has come unexpectedly to them. As time passes, however, the everyday events in Berlin being to change from exciting and vital to ominous and violent.

They are times when Ernst, Cliff’s first German friend, turns out to be an up-and-coming member of the Nazi Party. Herr Schultz, who is Fraulein Schneider’s fiancee and a fellow boarder with Cliff at Schneider’s guest house is the victim of an Anti-Semitic hate crime. Still, nonetheless Sally and Cliff's relationship does blossom a into a genuine romance.

When Cliff finds out that Sally is pregnant, he decides that they must leave for America at once. Things in Germany are getting worse. Sally, afraid, confused, and unsure that she’ll ever really be able to trade the sexy, illicit cabaret lifestyle for motherhood, gets an abortion. She tells Cliff that he must leave without her.

With a distinctly Brechtian dose of provocation and a score featuring songs that have become classics of the American Musical Theater, Cabaret is a fierce, meaty musical that pushes many boundaries of form and conservative logic.
