Michael Byron Nifong (born September 14, 1950) is a disbarred North Carolina attorney. He was the district attorney for Durham County, North Carolina (the state's 14th Prosecutorial District) but was removed, disbarred and jailed following court findings concerning his conduct in the Duke lacrosse case whereby Nifong pursued sexual assault charges made by Crystal Gail Mangum, a black woman who was working as an escort and stripper, against three white members of the Duke University lacrosse team.

Nifong graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1971 with a bachelor degree in political science. After working as a teacher and social worker, he returned to UNC in 1975 and earned a law degree from the University of North Carolina School of Law in 1978. He was admitted to the North Carolina bar.
