In 1850, the world human population totaled at least one billion. It was specifically estimated that the world population reached one billion for the first time in or around 1804. There was no estimation for the exact day or month the world's population surpassed the number of one billion. Experts have stated that the point at which the human population reached one billion was not officially noted in any public records.

Historians and other authorities have held that the world population experienced continuous growth with the end of the Great Famine and the Black Death of the 14th century. But, it would still take over 200 years for population figures to recover from the Black Death pandemic.

Gradually, the life expectancy of children has increased. And, with the use of child vaccinations and other improvements in medicine and waste sanitation, the world has and is continuing to experience population growth.
