The Iowa-class battleships were the last to be built for the Navy and the U.S.S. Missouri was the last of the 4 that were built. The U.S.S. Missouri was commissioned June of 1944, is 45,000 tons, and has 16 inch main guns. The U.S.S. Missouri has the distinction of being the site of Japan's official surrender that ended WW2. The Mighty Mo as she is called went on to serve in conflicts from the Korean War to Desert Storm. Today's Navy has a fleet of many fast, and powerful war ships, but no battleships. The end of battleships came about mainly with the advent of the aircraft carriers becomming the primary Naval weapon. The U.S.S. Missouri, like her sister ships, is now a floating museum being visited daily. The U.S.S. Missouri is moored in a place of honor at Pearl Harbor, where the U.S. experienced the devastating Japanese attack that drew her into WW2.
