What was the name of the artist who won the 1999 Turner Prize?

The Turner Prize, named after the English painter J. M. W. Turner, is an annual prize presented to a British visual artist. Until 2017, only artists under the age of 50 were eligible. Awarding the prize is organised by the Tate gallery and staged at Tate Britain. Since its beginnings in 1984 it has become the UK's most publicised art award. The award represents all media.

The 1999 Prize was given to Steve McQueen for his video based on a Buster Keaton film.

Terence Steven "Steve" McQueen (March 24, 1930 – November 7, 1980) was an American actor. Called "The King of Cool," his "anti-hero" persona developed at the height of the counterculture of the 1960s and made him a top box-office draw of the 1960s and 1970s. McQueen received an Academy Award nomination for his role in The Sand Pebbles.

This question needs to be pulled. Steve McQueen did indeed win the Turner Prize but not Steve McQueen the actor who died in 1980. The still living Steve McQueen is a very famous British filmmaker and artist. Perhaps he is best known in the States for his movie "12 Years a Slave" for which he won the Academy Award for Best Picture.

The question is correct, the answer is correct, but the third paragraph of the explanation is way off base. Steve McQueen is neither British was he alive and 99 to win the award. Very poor Explanation

Why even bother to put in a bio of the (deceased before 1999) actor, when it was the artist who won the prize? How silly and confusing.

Steve McQueen, the Turner prize winning artist, came up recently on Pointless. I recall thinking "really" when the option came up. But there really are 2 Steve McQueens. And maybe other less well known ones.
