A nouveau riche hillbilly family moves to Beverly Hills and shakes up the privileged society with their hayseed ways. In the "The Beverly Hillbillies" (1962 - 1971) TV series, Raymond Bailey plays Milburn Drysdale, a very wealthy banker. His bank is the fictitious Commerce Bank of Beverly Hills.

There is a running gag in this series. It is one where Drysdale–as President of the Commerce Bank of Beverly Hills–is in a feud with a rival bank President (he runs the Merchant Bank of Beverly Hills). They are challenging each other to see "who" will ultimately have custody of the millions held by Jed Clampett (Buddy Ebsen).

In one hilarious episode of 274, the one in season two titled ('The Bank Raising') finds Jed invited to the ceremonies marking the ground-breaking for the new Commerce Bank of Beverly Hills. This new bank will be a much better competitor to others, especially the Merchant Bank.

Mr. Drysdale is hosting a catered party in his office for bigwigs. It includes two rich men eager to meet J.D. Clampett because they think he is a financial genius on Wall Street. The whole Clampett family goes to the "bank raising" thinking it's like a barn raising back home. At the ceremonies, the Clampetts stay away from the crowds. They wait for the speeches to end so they can get to work. They are however shocked to see everyone leaving after just three shovels of dirt are scooped out of the ground. They don't understand the meaning of using a golden shovel.
