In the 1978 film "Every Which Way But Loose", Philo Beddoe (Clint Eastwood) is a truck driver living in California in the San Fernando Valley. He lives with an orangutan named Clyde. They are together in a small house, which is behind that of his friend and fight manager, Orville Boggs (Geoffrey Lewis) and Orville's mother (Ruth Gordon as Zenobia "Ma" Boggs).

Philo makes money on the side as a bare-knuckle fighter; he is often compared to the legendary fighter named Tank Murdock, an unbeatable brawler from Denver, CO. In the movie, Tank is played by Walter Barnes. Overall, at the heart of this adventure comedy, Philo roams the San Fernando Valley in search of cold beer, country music, and the occasional amped-up fight. When Philo falls hard for sexy country singer Lynn Halsey-Taylor (Sondra Locke), he sets out to win her heart and love. This film tells us in the end if he is able to get Lynn to love him.
