The Yamato was the heaviest battleships ever constructed, displacing 72,800 tonnes at full load and armed with nine 46 cm (18.1 inch) 45 Caliber Type 94 main guns, which were the largest guns ever mounted on a warship. Sunk 7 April 1945.

Bismarck displaced 41,700 t (41,000 long tons) as built and 50,300 t (49,500 long tons) fully loaded, with an overall length of 251 m (823 ft 6 in). The battleship was Germany's largest warship. Sunk 27 May 1941.

USS Iowa's displacement was 45,000 tons with a length of 887 ft 3 in (270.43 m).
