NASCAR was founded on February 21, 1948.

NASCAR stands for National Association of Stock Car Auto Racing, and was founded by William France Sr. The first NASCAR race was held at Charlotte Speedway in Charlotte, North Carolina on June 19, 1949. The three largest racing series within NASCAR are the Sprint Cup, Xfinity Series and Camping World Truck Series. NASCAR has it's official headquarters in Daytona Beach, Florida and is second to the National Football League among professional sports franchises. Originally NASCAR raced slightly modified versions of production American automobiles, but nowadays these cars are highly customized and vary significantly from real production automobiles.
