The ABC Television Network aired the first Monday Night Football game on September 21, 1970. The game was between the New York Jets and the Cleveland Browns. The Browns defeated the Jets 31-21 in a game that saw a 94 yard kickoff return for a touchdown by the Browns' Homer Jones, and a late fourth quarter interception off of the Jets' Joe Namath by the Browns' Billy Andrews who returned it 25 yards for the clinching touchdown. Because of NFL rules at the time, the game was blacked out in Cleveland. The blackout rule would be waived during the 1973 NFL season if the game was sold out 72 hours before kickoff. The original announcers were Howard Cosell, Don Meredith and Keith Jackson.
