Nominated for a total of 20 Academy Awards, Meryl Streep has received more nominations than any other actress in the history of the Academy. She won her very first Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress in the 1980 Academy Awards Ceremony for the film, Kramer vs. Kramer (1979). It was given at the 52nd Academy Awards Program that was held on April 14, 1980, at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in Los Angeles.

In 1978 Streep was first nominated in the supporting actress category for her performance in The Deer Hunter. With her 20 nominations, they include 16 for the Best Actress in a leading role and four for Best Supporting Actress. She was last nominated for Best Supporting Actress in 2015 for Into the Woods.

She was able to obtain her second Academy Award for Best Actress for Sophie's Choice (1982). For her role in The Iron Lady (2011), she obtained her third Oscar Award.

Born Mary Louise "Meryl" Streep in June 1949 in Summit, New Jersey, she is now in her late sixties, and she is continuing to act. She is still particularly known for her skill as an actress and for the many different roles that she has take on.

Today, she is one of several actors (Katharine Hepburn, Ingrid Bergman, Walter Brennan, and Jack Nicholson) to have won three or more competitive Academy Awards (Oscars). Because it is difficult to win an Oscar, Streep is always very quick to point out that she is very thankful for having people who helped and supported her in winning three Oscar Awards.
