These two 100 ft. high horse-head sculptures are located at the Forth and Clyde Canal near the town of Falkirk in central Scotland. They are the largest public artworks in Scotland. They are built of structural steel with stainless steel cladding, and each weighs 300 tonnes. Each sculpture is made from hundreds of cut steel plates welded on to a skeleton of steel bars like gigantic Meccano.

Glaswegian sculptor Andy Scott designed the sculptures which were completed in October 2013 and opened to visitors in the Spring of 2014. The name of the sculptures is "The Kelpies" and this was chosen by Scottish Canals to be a monument to the lineage of the heavy horse of Scottish industry and economy, pulling the wagons, ploughs, barges and coal ships that operated along Scotland's canals.
