A full-scale, intact replica of the Parthenon in Athens, Greece is located in Nashville, Tennessee. It was originally a temporary structure built in 1897 as part of the Tennessee Centennial Exhibition. It was so well received it was made a permanent structure in concrete completed in 1931. Nashville is to this day known as "The Athens of The South".

The Parthenon is located in Centennial Park two miles from downtown Nashville off West End Avenue near Vanderbilt University.

The original Parthenon, designed by Phidias in the Doric order, was built in "The Golden Age Of Greece" as a temple to the patron goddess Athena.

This wonderful replica stands as a Tennessee landmark hosting events from educational programming, to art exhibits, symposia and theatrical productions on a local and international scale.

Since 1982 the Conservancy for the Parthenon and Centennial Park, through cultural exchange programs, has linked Nashville's Parthenon to the ancient Parthenon with The Onassis Foundation, The Benaki Museum, the New Acropolis Museum and the city of Athens, Greece.
