The International Towing & Recovery Hall Of Fame and Museum is located in Chattanooga, TN, primarily because the first tow truck was created by the Ernest Holmes Company near the current museum site in 1916. The museum was dedicated in 1995 and is a non-profit organization.

The museum features restored antique wreckers and equipment from the tow truck industry. The museum also displays related toys, tools, equipment, and pictorial histories. The collection of tow trucks on display ranges from the early days of the automobile and includes miscellaneous antique toys and memorabilia.

The Hall also honors those towing drivers and workers who have given above and beyond service throughout their careers by having their names enshrined, similar to that of sports halls of fame.

Ernest Holmes, Sr. a garage worker, was inspired to build the tow truck after needing blocks, ropes, and six men to pull a car out of a creek. Upon improving his design he began manufacturing them commercially.
