Agra is one of the most visited and popular cities of India. A lot of Mughal-era buildings are located there, which attracts millions of tourists every year. Most of them, of course, travel to India to see the Taj Mahal, one of the greatest and best known landmarks on the planet.

This majestic building was constructed by Shah Jahan in the memory of his beloved wife, Mumtaz Mahal. She was a Persian princess, who mothered 14 his children. She died giving birth to Gauhara Begum in 1631. The girl, however, survived and lived for another 75 years. Shah Jahan commissioned the Taj Mahal the same year, and the construction began in 1632. The mausoleum took 2 decades to be built, and about 22 thousand people were involved

The Taj Mahal incorporates and expands on design traditions of Persian and earlier Mughal architecture. It is considered the main tourist attraction and the symbol of the country. More than 7 million people from all over the world visit the final resting place of Mumtaz Mahal every year. The building was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1983.
