Per Wikipedia: Lugosi, the youngest of four children,[2] was born Béla Ferenc Dezső Blaskó in Lugos in the Kingdom of Hungary (now Lugoj, Romania), not far from Transylvania, to István Blaskó, a banker, and Paula de Vojnich.
It would appear both Hungary AND Romania, would be acceptable.

You screwed the pooch again as he was born in Lugos, Kingdom of Hungary,
Austria-Hungry (now in Romania) not far from Transylvania (not in Transylvania). Please get your stuff together as you are making too many errors.

From your own answer, Austria would also be correct! The true answer is Hungary and it isn't even an option to choose from! It was near Translvania...not in Transylvania.

Since he was born in Austria-Hungary Austria should have been considered an answer

Rubbish question. Born in Austria-Hungary as it was pre WW1. 3 answers are countries. Transylvania is not a country. As the country he was born in at the time was called Austria-Hungary and that was not an option this is a very poor mid-leading question. Surprised it got past the moderators

He was born in Austria-Hungary in 1882. Since Hungary was not a choice the best answer would have been Austria. At the end of WW1 it became Romania. That was also not a choice. Not a fair question.

The correct answer is not among the listed ones. Luckily I picked Transylvania because it is in Romania.

Again, a tricky terrible question that could have more than one right answer is allowed in.

WRONG ANSWER : Bela Lugosi was born as Bela Ferenc Dezso Blasko on October 20, 1882 in Lugos, Hungary, which was then part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. His birthplace was only some fifty miles away from the western border of Transylvania and the Poenari Castle.

I tried to modify this question numerous times to make it more correct but was unable to submit it due to a technical problem with the site. Lugos was the correct spelling but was latter changed when it became part of Rumania. Transylvania's borders changed many times as well. Transylvania was a Principality within a Kingdom that was part of an Empire. Today it is part of Romania. Bela was a Hungarian actor and fought in WW1. I thought it was ironic that he became famous playing a character that came from the same region.

I did not have these same choices available to me when I answered this question. My choices were Austria, Romania, Germany and Transylvania, what is up with that!!

So now it is "not far from" but then it was "part of" Transylvania. Everyone is a critic. Maybe it was a trick question. So what! You had your choices, only one was correct. Transylvania.
