Many actors have portrayed President Abraham Lincoln in a number of great films. Some of the actors who have played President Lincoln include: Walter Huston in Abraham Lincoln (1930), Raymond Massey in Abe Lincoln in Illinois (1940), and Henry Fonda in Young Mr. Lincoln (1939). But notwithstanding these renowned actors, James "Jimmy" Stewart has never played Abraham Lincoln as the President of the United States in a major movie.

In the 1938 film, Of Human Hearts, it is a drama story about family relationships, set in the time when President Lincoln deals with the American Civil War. It is a film that is directed by Clarence Brown and stars Walter Huston, James Stewart, and Beulah Bondi.

Here Stewart plays a proud and ungrateful son who rebels against his father, Ethan Wilkins, who is a poor and honest man. Jason (Jimmy Stewart) yearns however to be a doctor, helping people who must live in the real world. So this is a rich story about striving for excellence, the tension found in a father-son rebellion, and the love which a mother has that can never die.

Also, Abraham Lincoln chews out Jimmy Stewart (Jason) for being an ungrateful son. He makes him sit right down and write to his mother. Jason is also told by the president that if he doesn't write every week, he will kick him out of his high ranking position. This is a great scene in a film concerning President Lincoln; and, James Stewart is present but he is not portraying President Lincoln.
