Chris Parnell became one of the featured players of Saturday Night Live on the 26th of September, 1998, and by the beginning of the next season he had been promoted to repertory player. Unfortunately, he had to leave the show in 2001 because of the budget cuts. But when the next season was already in full swing, Parnell was hired again.

In mid-2006, Michaels announced that four cast members would be fired due to budget cuts, but he did not say who. On September 22, 2006 it was announced that three cast members had been fired: Parnell, Horatio Sanz, and Finesse Mitchell. This effectively made Chris Parnell the only SNL performer to have been fired twice by Lorne Michaels. Nowadays he is known by his numerous roles in different sitcoms, but SNL remains his most prominent work.
