Which American bomber was featured in the 1990 film Memphis Belle?
Memphis Belle is the nickname of a Boeing B-17F Flying Fortress. It was used during the Second World War; and, it inspired the making of two motion pictures: a 1944 documentary film, Memphis Belle: A Story of a Flying Fortress, and a 1990 Hollywood feature film, Memphis Belle. The aircraft was one of the first B-17F United States Army Air Forces heavy bombers to complete 25 combat missions with its whole crew intact.
In 2014, this aircraft (the Boeing B-17F Flying Fortress) began extensive restoration at the National Museum of the United States Air Force at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio.

My dad was a top turret gunner in a B17 called the Marzy Doats with a pretty pin up girl on it’s side!! I ha e his picture with it and the whole crew!! Flew 25 missions over Germany from England and made it back home in one piece!!

Knew it. Was an Air Force Historian. However, ever B-17 I ever located and visited always gave me the creeps. Would love to go to Wright Pat in Ohio to see if I get the same feeling with the Memphis Belle.

L Lh Adams, The Air Force took it back some years ago. They've been restoring it ever since. It's eventually supposed to be in like-new condition, but NOT flying condition. It will be displayed at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.
