Fountain is a 1917 work and a ready-made art produced by Marcel Duchamp. The piece was porcelain urinal. It was signed R.Mutt (pseudonym) and titled Fountain. It was submitted for the exhibition of the society of independent artists, New York, in 1917. But unfortunately, it was rejected by the committee, even though Marcel Duchamp paid the fee according to rule of exhibition.

Fountain was displayed and photographed at Alfred Stieglitz's studio. The photo was later published in the journal of Blind man. Pablo Picasso first publicly utilized the idea of ready-made art. He pasted a printed image of chair caning onto his painting, titled ''Still Life Chair Canning''(1912). Marcel Duchamp is thought to have perfected the concept several years later. When he made a series of ready-made arts consisting of completely unaltered everyday objects, selected by Duchamp and designed as art. The most famous example was Fountain. The philosopher Stephen Hicks argued that Duchamp was obviously made a provocative statement with Fountain. Marcel Duchamp was born on 28 July 1887 and died on 2 October 1968.
