Our world is made up of a plethora of things; some we can see and others we cannot. Though they are invisible to the human eye, an atom is the smallest unit of a chemical element. Chemical elements are identified on the periodic table according to their atomic number, or their number of protons. Protons are found in the dense nucleus of an atom and carry a positive electric charge; the goody two shoes twin! Neutrons are also found in the nucleus, but have no electric charge. I guess you could call the neutron the twin with no personality; important, but not memorable. Circling outside the nucleus are tiny particles called electrons. These electrons carry a negative electric charge. Electrons are the life of the party, the ying to the proton's yang.
