Steve Carlton's Hall of Fame career started in 1965 as he was in the Cardinal's pitching rotation which included HOF pitcher Bob Gibson. He was a member of the 1967 and 1968 NL Champs, with the 1967 team going on to win the World Series. In 1972, Carlton was traded to the Philadelphia Phillies for Rick Wise. Philadelphia would become a powerhouse in the NL Eastern division in the late 1970s. Carlton, along with Pete Rose, Larry Bowa and Bob Boone, propelled the Phillies to a world title in 1980, defeating the Kansas City Royals to become MLB champs. Carlton concluded a prolific career with 329 wins and over 4,000 strikeouts. Carlton was the first pitcher to garner 4 Cy Young awards.
