Toronto Pearson International Airport officially named Lester B. Pearson International Airport (frequently shortened to Toronto Pearson, Pearson Airport, or simply Pearson), is an international airport serving the city of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, the Greater Toronto Area, and the Golden Horseshoe, an urban agglomeration of 9.2 million people.

The airport is located 22.5 km (14.0 mi) northwest of Downtown Toronto, with the bulk of the airport (including the two main terminals) located in the adjacent city of Mississauga, and a small portion of the airfield extending into Etobicoke, Toronto's western district. The airport is named in honour of Toronto-born Lester B. Pearson, Nobel Peace Prize Laureate and 14th Prime Minister of Canada.

Pearson Airport is the largest and busiest airport in Canada. In 2016, it handled 44,335,198 passengers and 456,536 aircraft movements, making it the world's 32nd-busiest airport by total passenger traffic, 22nd-busiest airport by international passenger traffic, and 15th-busiest airport by flights.

Before being called Lester Pearson the airport was known as Malton International Airport. In July 1970 as I was training for my instrument rating at Malton early in the morning, We witnessed a plane crash (Air Canada DC8) which killed 109 people. We were number 3 behind the DC8 when we saw the plane hitting the ground and trying to go around for another approach. Several explosions occurred after this very hard “touch and go” which damaged the wing and ripped off an engine. The plane was too damaged for a go-around, lost altitude and crash. Because of the debris on the runway we were diverted to Hamilton. I’ll never forget the fire and smoke at the crash site.
